Dallas, Fort Worth come together over airport
The Associated Press
DALLAS -- After a decade of feuding over landing planes, Dallas and Fort
Worth leaders will host their first joint city council meeting today to
discuss regional cooperation.
Leaders of the two North Texas cities were once worlds away from turning a
longstanding rivalry into regional partnership.
Much of the contention centered over flights out of Dallas' regional
airport, which Fort Worth officials feared would compete with the jointly
operated Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
Now it seems the battle over Love Field has turned into a virtual love fest.
While it's the first time quorums of both groups have met together, council
members have mingled since Dallas Mayor Laura Miller took office this year.
Miller has led a group of city and business leaders on a tour of Fort
Worth's booming downtown entertainment and retail areas.
And last week, leaders from Dallas and Fort Worth traveled together to
Canada to promote the North Texas region as a good place to do business.
