Four men pulled from plane at Oakland Airport
The San Jose (CA) Mercury News
America West Airlines Flight 624 bound for Phoenix was delayed at
Oakland International Airport on Thursday night after authorities
removed four ``suspicious'' men for questioning by the FBI, according to
airport officials.
Air marshals and the flight crew alerted the FBI while the Boeing 737
was parked at Gate 4, officials said. Authorities would not give a
reason why the men seemed suspicious or describe the men, who were among
83 ticketed passengers.
The plane was evacuated, inspected and reboarded, officials said. The
men, whose names were not released, were questioned by federal agents
and released two hours later, said airport duty officer Darrel Curry.
The flight, scheduled for a 5:37 p.m. departure, left about 6:30 p.m.,
arriving safely at Phoenix Skyharbor International Airport at 8:17 p.m.
It was the second such incident in Oakland in recent months. On July 22,
airport officials shut down the two main terminals after a woman who was
picking up her husband advertently triggered a security alert. Thousands
of passengers were evacuated and 16 flights were grounded for more than
an hour.
