Carrasco airport auction attracts international interest
Business News Americas
Companies and consortiums from five countries have expressed interest in
the February 26, 2003 auction to operate Uruguay's Carrasco
international airport, Chile's Estrategia newspaper quoted Uruguay's
deputy defense minister Roberto Yavaronne as saying.
Groups from Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Canada and Italy have contacted
Uruguay's government to ask about conditions and procedures for the
auction, Yavaronne said without giving company names. And, as the
auction date approaches, the government expects interest to grow.
The minimum concession price for the contract to operate Carrasco, which
serves capital Montevideo, is set at US$15mn. The concessionaire will
have to pay a US$2.5mn annual lease that will increase according to
passenger or cargo traffic.
The auction for the 20-year concession, which includes upgrading and
enlarging the airport, will follow the business model developed last
year for Montevideo port's container terminal.
