Pennsylvania man held for making 'dynamite' remark at airport
The Miami (L) Herald

A York, Pa., man who made a remark about having dynamite in his luggage
at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport over the weekend was
being held in Broward County Jail Monday.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, Sixty-year-old Robert Smith
made a comment about his heavy luggage to agents at the U.S. Airways
ticket counter at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

''That bag has dynamite in it,'' Smith reportedly said.

Two U.S Airways employees heard the remark and immediately alerted BSO.

Deputies set up a perimeter and searched his luggage. Smith, a retired
teacher, in fact was not carrying any explosives.

Smith and his wife were vacationing in South Florida and were about to
board a flight for home.

He was being held on $75,000 bond Monday afternoon in Broward County
Jail, charged with making a false report of an explosive, a
second-degree felony. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in
prison and up to $10,000 in fines.
