FAA releases $14 million for improvements at Sea-Tac airport
The Associated Press

WASHINGTON - The Federal Aviation Administration today released more
than $14 million in grants for improvements at Seattle-Tacoma
International Airport.

The grants, part of the agency's Airport Improvement Program, include
$4.4 million to install runway lighting and nearly $10 million for noise
reduction projects, including window treatments, new doors and
ventilation for public buildings near the airport.

"This money will help families, schools and businesses in communities
near Sea-Tac to minimize unwanted noise," said Sen. Patty Murray,
D-Wash. "These projects will help protect our community from noise
pollution while allowing Sea-Tac to continue to grow as one of the most
important economic and commercial hubs in the Northwest."

Murray, chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations subcommittee on
transportation, helped secured the funding for the project two years
ago.

"Maintaining the function and safety of Washington's runways is a top
priority," Murray said. "Thanks to these grants, Sea-Tac can make the
improvements it needs to run safely, and at full capacity, and to expand
at a time when many of our nation's airports are struggling."

Construction of a third runway at the airport has been stalled by
concerns over potential noise pollution and other environmental worries.
