Vitter Sounds Off On Airport Security
WDSU-TV TheNewOrleansChannel.com

Congressman David Vitter met Thursday with FBI agents and
representatives of the two companies that control security at Louis
Armstrong International Airport.

Vitter was briefed on new measures that were implemented after a series
of post-Sept. 11 security breaches at the airport.

While Vitter could not discuss details, he said the situation had gotten
out of control and he is willing to adopt a wait-and-see approach to
assess the effectiveness of the new strategies.

"It was somewhat reassuring, at least, that several people have been
fired as a direct result," Vitter said. " There has been major
restaffing, major retraining, there is expanded training. So that is a
positive response to these breaches. Is it good enough? As I said at the
end of the meeting, only time will tell."
