Colorado Springs Council Approves Airport Security Equipment Purchase
By Ed Sealover
The Colorado Springs (CO) Gazette
Council members voted unanimously to proceed with a federally mandated
plan to install machines at the Colorado Springs Airport that screen
every piece of luggage for explosives.
The four large machines are expected to cost the airport about $1
million. Council members voted Tuesday to appropriate $75,000 from the
airport's budget for construction drawings of how they will work.
The machines are now slated to be located in the terminal across from
the ticket counters. Passengers will check bags at the counters then
take luggage to machines to be scanned and transported to planes.
"I think this is going to be a good idea," Councilman Richard Skorman
said. "I think it's going to be less convenient ... but I think it's
needed."
