Airport Supervisors Arrested In Probe
KITV TheHawaiiChannel.com

HONOLULU -- The Attorney General's office arrested two airport
supervivors Tuesday in connection with a state probe into airport
contracts.

State police booked Antonio Bio and Dennis Hirokawa on theft charges.

Hirokawa is a maintenance supervisor and Bio is the airfield and grounds
supervisor.

The arrests come after investigators seized several loads of records and
computer files last Wednesday.

The arrests stem from a tip law enforcement officers picked up back in
May.

Tuesday afternoon authorities sealed court documents detailing the probe
because it's likely there will be other arrests.

The state is investigating the awarding of small purchase contracts
dating back to 1995.

Bio and Hirokawa left the state cellblock Tuesday afternoon after being
booked on theft charges.

Hirokawa was arrested for first-degree theft and bribery.

Both men said they were advised by the lawyers not to talk about the
investigation.

They said they were called into the airport manager's office at around 9
a.m. where they were arrested by state police.

On Wednesday, investigators from the attorney generals office seized
several loads of records and computer files.

The state probe is focused on the awarding of small purchase contracts
dating back to 1995-96.

"Because its an ongoing investigation, we don't know what the amounts
are at this time," said Donald Wong of the Attorney General's office.

Bio faces charges of theft in the second degree.

KITV 4 News first reported last week that Bio was also arrested by
sheriffs in what the state said was a "separate investigation" for the
theft of potted palms and other plants from the airports nursery yard.

State documents show Bio turned 61 Monday.
