Swarms of fruit flies close Romanian airport

Otopeni Airport, Romania has been forced to cancel all flights due to
huge swarms of fruit flies. 

Airport authorities were forced to cancel flights to and from the
airport as the insects - which descended on the airport near Bucharest
after they were moved from nearby houses because of insecticide spraying
- make it too dangerous to operate flights as the tiny creatures can
enter aircraft engines and instruments, and can affect radar and airport
communications. 

An aircraft travelling from Bucharest to Bologna, Italy, was forced to
abort its flight just minutes after take off yesterday (27 May) as
hundreds of the flies were sucked into the aircraft's engines, reported
Ananova.
