KLIA SECURITY IS AMONG THE BEST IN THE WORLD, SAYS LING
United Kingdom - The London Financial Times
SEPANG, (Bernama) -- The International Air Transport Association (IATA)
has recognised the KL International Airport's (KLIA) security system as
one of the best in the world, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ling
Liong Sik said today.
He said the recognition was given verbally when a group of IATA officers
made their inspection at the airport recently.
"We have been congratulated by IATA that we have one of the best
security clearing systems for both passengers and baggage," he told
reporters after attending a closed-door briefing by Malaysia Airports
Berhad, here.
The briefing and discussion, which lasted for more than two hours, was
on the security system implemented at KLIA under the Total Airport
Management System (Tams) since the airport began operations in 1997.
"The airport has 1,240 closed-circuit cameras at certain areas such as
airport terminal, cargo, airport surrounding areas, either inside or
outside," he told reporters after touring the security system at the
airport complex.
Dr Ling said the airport had at least three layers of security checks on
passengers and their baggage before they were allowed to board any
aircraft.
He said Malaysia Airports Berhad had also installed the bio-metric
identification security system for 20,000 workers at the KLIA to monitor
their movements and the areas they entered.
"Through this thumbprint check, we will know automatically the areas a
particular person is allowed through,"he added.
