More Screener Applicants Sought For Four Airports
Airport Security Report


The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced May 16 that
it is still looking to fill security screener positions at four airports
because not enough applicants passed the government's screener exam or
were present for the test. TSA first posted vacancy announcements in
early April for security screener positions at all four airports (see
ASR, April 10, 2002). The airports are Gerald Ford International in
Grand Rapids, MI; Mobile Regional Airport in Alabama; Louisville
International Airport in Kentucky; and Spokane International Airport in
Washington.

The TSA is seeking part time and full time workers at these airports and
will leave the vacancies open until all positions are filled. "The first
time TSA posted these vacancies, many potentially qualified candidates
told us they either did not have enough time to apply, or were only
looking for part time positions," said Pamela Pearson, TSA's director of
workforce creation.

At San Francisco International Airport (SFO) earlier this month airport
officials failed to verify information on hundreds of applicants for
screening positions with the TSA. So no applications were accepted by
TSA and they left empty-handed.

In addition, vacancies remain open for screener positions at Baltimore-
Washington International Airport (BWI).
