Hundreds evacuated at Chicago's O'Hare airport after security lapse
Agence France Presse
CHICAGO, (AFP) - Hundreds of passengers at Chicago O'Hare's
International Airport had to be re-screened early Monday after
authorities discovered a checkpoint metal detector had malfunctioned,
officials said.
"One of the concourses in terminal three was evacuated," as a result of
the mishap according to Monique Bond, spokeswoman for the city's
aviation department.
But Bond said the disruption caused by the glitch at the Midwestern hub
-- one of the country's busiest -- was minimal because of the early
hour.
The terminal serves American and Delta Airlines as well as smaller
operators such as Alaska Airlines and TWA (Trans World Airlines).
