BAA urged to cut airport shop charges
LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's main airports operator, BAA, is coming
under pressure from retailers to cut charges on shops at its terminals
due to the slump in passenger numbers, the Observer newspaper reported.
The paper said BAA charges a premium on rents at airports, including
Heathrow and Gatwick, due to the millions of people that pass through
them.
It quoted an unnamed retail source as saying these premiums were no
longer justified as passenger numbers were down sharply in the wake of
the September 11 attacks on the United States.
