Shuangliu International Airport operational following expansion project

Shuangliu International Airport in Chengdu, the capital of southwest
China's Sichuan Province, was operational on Friday (26 October)
following the completion of its expansion project.
The expansion project, which cost a total of CNY2.7bn, included the
extension of the runway to 3,600 metres, making it now capable of
handling the Boeing 747- 400, and the construction of a 3,600-metre taxi
lane parallel to the runway.
The airport can now handle around 80 flights of various types of
aircraft at one time. The annual capacity of 7m passengers a year is
estimated to increase in the future to 15m or 20m.
