Government orders revision of plans for SBIA passenger terminal
Thai Daily Digest
The committee in charge of the Second Bangkok International Airport (SBIA)
project has instructed the Murphy Jahn-TAMS-ACT consortium (MJTA) to reduce
the amount of imported materials required for their passenger terminal plan,
a report in Krungthep Turakij said.
Since the prime minister instructed all government agencies to reduce their
expenditures on imported tools and materials, the committee running the SBIA
project has postponed bidding on the construction of the passenger terminal
until the plan for the building can be revised. The current plan calls for
using 37 per cent imported materials, but the committee wants MJTA to reduce
this to no more than 20 per cent.
When the new plan is finished bidding will be opened for all nine
construction contractors that qualified for the first round of bidding, not
just the four that were short-listed after the first round of bidding.
Since the delay will probably affect the opening date of the new airport,
the SBIA committee is proceeding with a back-up plan to expand the existing
Bangkok International Airport at Don Muang.
