Fire at airport lot destroys 8 cars
THE SAN DIEGO (CA) UNION-TRIBUNE
A wind-blown fire destroyed eight cars and damaged six others at a Lindbergh
Field parking lot last night. Fire investigators were trying to determine
the cause.
Witnesses reported flames shooting up from at least one vehicle at 8:40 p.m.
in a car lot at Terminal 2, fire officials said. When the first fire crews
arrived, three to four cars were engulfed in flames.
Officials said gusting winds fanned the blaze to adjacent vehicles while
firefighters were dragging hose lines in from the nearest hydrants. It took
about half an hour to extinguish the fire. No one was injured.
