Mexico: Texcoco airport proposal impossible
South American Business Information

Mexican private investment regional affairs consultant Humberto Parra has
had to rule out the possibility of Mexico's new airport, designed to act as
an alternative to Mexico City's Benito Jaurez airport, being built at
Texcoco due to the area's problems with the nearby Popocatepetl volcano 50
kms away. The decision on the new airport's location will be taken,
according to minister Pedro Cerisola, in February 2001 and now the only
viable option remaining is Tizayuca, 150 kms from 'Popo'. Benito Juarez has
been affected by the volcano in the last few days. Additionally, meanwhile,
the Grupo Financiero del Sureste could face a takeover bid from Manuel
Somoza's Prudential Apollo.
