Flights soar 14 pct at Hong Kong airport

HONG KONG, Oct 18 (AFP) - Flights at Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok international
airport soared 14 percent year-on-year in September, aviation authorities
said Wednesday.
Some 15,515 flights arrived and departed the two-year-old airport in
September. Of those, 2,746 or 17.7 percent were cargo flights.
Passenger traffic in September rose 18.1 percent year-on-year, to 2.79
million.
In the first eight months, passenger numbers rose 11.0 percent to 32.88
million compared with the corresponding period in 1999.
