Provo airport manager proposes fee increases
Deseret News

PROVO — The city's municipal airport manager wants to increase fees
for aircraft rental space and fuel at the site, saying such services are
underpriced.

Steve Gleason, the airport's manager, is proposing that fees for
hanger space be raised 1.5 cents, from 15.5 cents per square foot (per year)
to 17 cents, and that renters be required to sign 40-year leases for the
space — which is not atypical in airport circles.

He also recommends that the city triple the airport's fuel tax to 6
cents per gallon.

"This is what the market will bear for the Provo airport," Gleason
told council members during a non-voting briefing Tuesday.

Gleason said the proposed increases are primarily motivated by "going
for fair market value."

He acknowledged, however, that rate hikes could enable the airport —
which had an $89,000 deficit last year — "to improve our facilities and our
revenue."
