Airport consultants want more pay
By STEVE ELLIOTT
MODESTO BEE STAFF WRITER
SONORA -- After paying an aviation consulting company nearly $100,000 to
update the Tuolumne County Airport Land Use Policy Plan, the Board of
Supervisors isn't in any big hurry to pay the consultants any more --
especially when the plan they came up with is about as popular as a
toothache.
The plan is being attacked by a group of property owners near the
Columbia Airport, because it would put new restrictions on what they could
build on their land.
The consultant, Shutt Moen Associates, told the county it had attended
the number of meetings it was required to under the contract, and to attend
any more -- and more will be necessary before the land use plan is
adopted -- it should be paid more.
That request was brought before the board in December, and the board
directed the county attorney to look at the contract and see what the county
was obligated to pay.
The county attorney determined that although the contract was for a set
amount, the agreement also specified a certain number of meetings the
consultant was to attend.
Airports Director Mark Bautista told the board Tuesday he believed Shutt
Moen representatives had attended more than the required number of meetings
and should therefore be paid more.
The board, however, was unconvinced and told Bautista to come back next
week with a list of meetings the firm had attended.
