Lack of fuel at Rome's Fiumicino airport caused by management communication
problems claims refuelling company
M2 Communications
OCT 13, 1999, M2 Communications - Poor communication between management at
Rome's Fiumicino airport and the airport's refuelling company, SERAM, led to
a lack of fuel at the airport on 11 October. SERAM claims it warned airport
management company, Aeroporti di Roma, on 10 October that the fuel tanks
were almost empty, however Aeroporti di Roma maintains that it was given
insufficient notice of the situation. The lack of fuel meant that five
flights from the airport were cancelled, 14 were delayed and six were
rerouted according to Reuters. The airport was expected to be refuelled by
emergency pumping and a special delivery, however Aeroporti di Roma warned
that supplies could run out again between late 12 October and mid 13
October.
