Gas line broken at GF airport
Grand Forks (N.D.) Herald

Personnel at the Grand Forks International Airport and at UND airport
facilities were evacuated Wednesday when a gas line serving the airport was
ruptured by excavating equipment.

According to air traffic control tower officials, no airborne planes were
affected by the 45-minute interruption. Northwest Airlines reported no
delays in Grand Forks related to the gas line break.

Tim Burke, marketing coordinator for the Grand Forks Regional Airport
Authority, said the break was reported at about 5:45 p.m. and Northern
States Power workers had it sealed off by 6:20 p.m.

Six control tower employees and about 30 people at the UND facilities were
evacuated while the pipe was sealed off.

Airport fire crews, along with the Grand Forks Fire Department and Altru
ambulance service, responded.

The contractor was digging to install drain and sewer lines in the UND
parking lot, Burke said.
